It's okay to lose your motivation!

After racking my brains for the last week, trying to think of my next blog idea, next subject, I've already hit a wall. Why do I put so much pressure on myself and give myself a stress headache trying to fit things in?

I've had a list as long as my arm. Sure, each thing is not overly time-consuming, but my brain likes to look at all of the things on the list, compile them together to create this impossible situation, and nothing ever gets done!

I've been to therapy, I know how this works.

I know the tools I need to put into place to get through my list, so why am I not using them?

I've been feeling a tad deflated if I'm honest, and my motivation has dipped. This is just a recipe for disaster when you know you have things to do. So here I am, ranting on a blog post about it!

I guess I wanted you all to know that it happens to absolutely everybody and probably more often than you think. That smiley Facebook post looks good, doesn't it? Was it taken on a day where I felt amazing? No.

It's not easy separating home life and business life. One always needs more attention, and you can't split yourself in two to conquer both. Looking at your list, you need to approach the really important, urgent ones first.

Which tasks are the ones that have a deadline? Perhaps it's a birthday party, and you know the invitations need to go out promptly so you can get your RSVPs in on time?

Odd example, but funnily enough, that was one task on my list that I have just completed, and I'm taking the little win.

Which tasks could wait till the end of the week? Write them down and assign a day; that's your task for that day. One task is nothing!

Have something that needs quiet and your full attention? When do you have that time during the week? Is there a day where you have a couple of hours, work and child-free, or could you arrange to be child-free?

I find I work best when I sit in one of my favorite coffee shops. I'm going there for the purpose of work. I'll also take a book to read, and I tell myself that if I complete my task, I can then settle into my book as a reward.

It's important to remember we are all going through our own bag of issues. We don't talk about it as it's ours to own, but talking is actually incredibly helpful. It doesn't matter if that friend doesn't have a solution, but sharing it with someone else relieves a bit of that weight.

You see someone's business doing well, selfies of their success. Just don't forget how hard they pushed through those days where they felt it wasn't going well, or they were poorly. Or they secretly hid their pain from you, because trust me, I bet it's happened to us all!

Taking the little wins on a Monday :-)
